India Production-Collaborations

In collaboration with Filmmaker Els Remijn, and Netherlands and the IKEA Foundation-
5 Impact Films for Ikea Foundation:

We provided shooting, editing, color correction and final delivery of 5 Impact films across multiple locations in India over several shooting schedules. It required travelling with a crew by flights and road to distant villages and cities in India, and collaborating over a period of more than a year. Editing independent films sitting across continents required that we always be on the same page, if not in the same time zone!

In collaboration with The Hunger Project, India :

We provided on location direction, shooting, scripting/ structuring, and editing support on two films about women achievers and community leaders in rural/tribal Madhya Pradesh. These women have fought challenging circumstances to rise above their conditions to lead the community in ways that are inspiring and worthy of acclaim.

Why you should hire local production in India

Organizing a shoot in India presents a unique set of challenges. Unpredictability is the norm, and many things can go wrong. Foreign crews often envision a small, two-person team travelling across the country and shooting at chosen locations. However, this approach is generally neither feasible nor recommended in India.

Here are some key considerations:

  • Crew and Equipment: Camera gear in India is almost always rented rather than owned. Rentals typically come with an assistant whose primary responsibility is to ensure the gear’s safety. Insurance for equipment is uncommon, making it essential to have an experienced local crew to manage and protect the gear, especially in crowded and unpredictable environments.

  • Crowd Control: A camera attracts curious onlookers, and managing crowds often requires more than one person. Local knowledge and additional manpower are crucial to maintain smooth operations and avoid disruptions.

  • Transport: Transport booked online may be unreliable, especially considering that vehicles carrying a shooting crew requires an understanding of following strict time schedules and most drivers are only used to tourist whims.

  • Airports can impose sudden restrictions on checking in or carrying camera equipment. Flexibility and contingency plans are necessary to navigate these challenges.

  • Traffic: Traffic conditions vary significantly across cities and times of the day. In major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore, scheduling shoots at multiple locations on the same day can be problematic due to unpredictable commute times.

To ensure a successful shoot in India, it’s vital to collaborate with local production teams who understand these complexities and can manage the logistical hurdles effectively. By working together, we can navigate these challenges and deliver high-quality results for your project.
